CHRISTMAS IN MURCIA

Written by: Berta Pedreño Reverte

Christmas in Murcia starts in December 23 and ends in January 7. The festivities are:

• December 24 (Christmas Eve):

The family gathers for dinner and at 12 am they go to midnight mass. The house is decorated with the Nativity Scene.

• December 25 (Christmas):

It is the birth of Jesus. It´s also celebrated with a family meal. The main course of this day is cooked with “meatballs”.

• December 31 (New Year):

It is a non-religious holiday. People party and celebrate the end of the year and 12 grapes are taken to the rhythm of the twelve chimes of the clock of the “Puerta del Sol” and then going to the clubs or private parties.

• January 6 (Epiphany):

It takes the “twelfthnight cake”. Everybody opens the presents the three wise men have left under the tree.

And finally, I leave you a spanish christmas song:

Tell me Child who´s are you

dressed all in white.

I’m Virgin´s Mary

and the Holy Spirit.

Tell me Child who´s are you

and if Jesus is your name.

I´m love in the manger

and suffering in the Cross.

Resonate with joy

the songs of my land

and live God’s Child

born on Christmas Eve.

Resonate with joy

the songs of my land

and live God’s Child

born on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve comes dooroodoo

Christmas Eve goes.

And we’ll go, dooroodoo

and we won´t come back again.

Resonate with joy

the songs of my land

and live God’s Child

born on Christmas Eve.

Resonate with joy

the songs of my land

and live God’s Child

born on Christmas Eve.
